Civic reflection is the practice of reading and discussing short pieces of literature as a means of reflecting on the central questions of civic life.

This simple practice can help citizens talk more comfortably about values, think more deeply about choices, and respond more imaginatively to the needs of their communities.

Civic reflection is now being used by AmeriCorps programs, Rotary clubs, foundations, social service agencies, schools and other civic organizations. Leadership Washington County is thrilled to bring to Hagerstown, Adam Davis, Director of Training and Publications for the Project on Civic Reflection. Davis is the keynote speaker for the Graduation Ceremony & Luncheon for LWC Class 24.

Join us on Friday June 10th from 12-2pm at Fountain Head Country Club to celebrate Class 24′s successful completion of the LWC program . Registration is $35 and available through the LWC website home page by clicking on ‘Register for the Graduation Luncheon.’ Contact Tara Horst with questions: tara@leadershipwashingtoncounty.org.
Time: 2-4pm Behind the Scenes Tour and Talk

4-6pm Happy Hour Reception @ Bulls & Bears Restaurant

Come hear Dr. Elizabeth “Betty” Morgan ’04, Washington County Public Schools Superintendent, and National Superintendent of the Year, talk about how the school, which opened in 2009, grew from an inspired vision into a successful reality. Learn about the success of public/private financing, the re-development of downtown Hagerstown, and the model this school provides to other communities.

Go behind the scenes as students perform highlights from their upcoming performance, Phantom of the Opera; enjoy a tour; and discover how a school can revitalize a community, while offering young people an invaluable opportunity to explore the arts. Principal Mike Thorsen will also talk about the school’s goals and the importance of the arts in schools.

Located in the heart of downtown Hagerstown’s Arts and Entertainment District, the vision of the Barbara Ingram School for the Arts is to provide a world class academic and arts education as the first arts magnet high school in Washington County and Western Maryland.

The afternoon concludes with “Happy Hour” at the Bulls and Bears (across the street from the school).
